Holiday Villa vs 4-star Hotel

Introduction to the topic!
When it comes to planning your holidays it is essential to find the best possible accommodation. So, there is a dilemma; should I book a hotel or a house with a private swimming pool? If you are a family or a group of friends then, maybe, a villa is a better choice than a hotel.

Many believe that a villa is much more expensive than a hotel but this is not true. The fact is, spending the same amount of money, a villa can offer you a variety of choices. This article analyzes five key points that every traveler should consider before deciding where he/she will spend the night. The question still remains; book a villa/house or a hotel for my holidays? Let’s find out together what suits you best. We wish happy, comfortable holidays to everyone!

Arrival
When you book a villa, usually, you can book a private transfer. Typically, mini vans, with a capacity of 6 to 8 persons, are used which will drive you directly to your villa or elsewhere, if you ask. Sometimes, private transfer is included in the price. So, why wait in line to get a taxi or local bus after so many hours flying, tired with cranky kids? And believe me, taxis cost as much as a mini van.

Space
Villas have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms and provide a better “friends” or “family” experience than a hotel does. Villas are spacious, have a big garden where children can play freely while you watching TV on a comfortable sofa.

A hotel room is usually small and if you are a big family it is impossible to stay all together. At the same time, children have no space where they can play and enjoy their holidays. Additionally, there is only one bathroom; this means that 4 or more people use the same toilet (kids are not known for being careful) so the risk of infection is high.

Quiet
Villas are private houses, usually isolated, with a private swimming pool. No neighbors are on the other side of the wall making so much noise that you cannot sleep. Furthermore, villas are away from main streets and noise from vehicles won’t bother you at all. So, you are free to relax and enjoy your holidays in a serene environment.

On the other hand, hotels are typically near main streets. This means that there will be a lot of noise coming out of cars and buses while your neighbors may be noisy as well. City hotels are usually old buildings, sometimes not very well renovated so, besides noise you will experience an atmosphere full of air pollutants!

Privacy
One of the most important factors that will make you holidays a success is privacy. Villas offer privacy because you are not sharing the swimming pool or your bathtub. Beachfront villas usually offer a private beach where you can relax without people staring at you. Also, do not forget, there is a parking spot 24/7; you can drive to beautiful beach, stay all day and when it’s time to get home you are calm and certain you will park outside your house.

If you book a hotel then you will face a serious problem. Where am I going to swim? The swimming pool is overcrowded, unhygienic due to all these people swimming as well as extremely noisy! On the other hand, the beach is overcrowded as well. People yelling, laughing, playing racquets… This is not a place for you to relax and escape from your daily routine.

Eating
Villas have a fully-equipped kitchen and are pre-stocked with your favorite groceries and, it is true, that natives may have different eating habits than yours. So, why not cook whatever you like without spending money to restaurants for lunch or dinner?

If you book a hotel then you must include in the budget a lot of money for eating at restaurants or fast-foods. Can anyone guarantee what you are eating is good and healthy and not overrated? No. But, if you go to the supermarket and buy all the ingredients you need to cook a healthy meal then you have spent less money than eating outside and you are aware of what you are eating!

  1. I would choose neither. I like staying in small hotels, being out and about as much as possible to enjoy and experience and meet the locals. Eating out is a must as this is a chance to enjoy the food I don’t normally eat. I also like to think that I’m contributing as much as possible to the local businesses.

    • Thank you for your comment! It is very nice to hear that you choose to enjoy each monent of your holidays like this. Seems like you are a real traveler rather than a tourist! You can read more about this here: https://wonderfulcrete.wordpress.com/2014/10/17/tourist-or-traveler/

Taking into account your preferences, we would suggest a traditional villa for you, located in the heart of a traditional village or settlement. This way you will have the opportunity to actually live like a local during your holidays, while enjoying a private, fully functionable holiday home. Imagine a hospitable villa owner treating you local products or home-made pie. Imagine having the chance to harvest fresh vegetables from your villa’s organic garden. Perfect for a light salad! And, afterwards, imagine going to the village’s traditional tavern to enjoy local delicacies. And considering that you aim to contribute to the local business, here are who you helped this way: the tavern owner + waiters, the villa owner & his family, the local travel agency (since we are indeed a local travel agency, located in Chania and run by locals).

We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 🙂 Have a nice day!
